In order to keep the register up-to-date and to facilitate information about any events concerning a mark, such as serving of applications for cancellation, it is recommended to register any changes of name or address with the Patent Office. A simple application with a document confirming the respective change has to be filed. For changes of company names excerpts of commercial registers showing the change („historical data“) are sufficient. In case of doubt, the Patent Office may ask for notarised copies of such documents, but this is not a general formal requirement. Applications for changes of name or address are subject to an official fee of EUR 80 per trademark.
