In recent years, buzzwords such as crypto-assets, Bitcoin, and proof of work have attracted attention, both positive and negative. Concerns have been raised regarding the environmental impact of the proof of work consensus mechanism, due to its high energy consumption. The European Union has now introduced a harmonised regulatory framework for the crypto-assets market. Can this regulation green the crypto-assets market, or do more policies need to be put in place?
