An Analysis of Austria’s Rule of Law Deficits

The rule of law is a core principle of a democratic nation. Austria ranked 8^th out of 31 in the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2021 and declined to 10^th out of 31 in 2022 in the European, EFTA, and North American ranking. According to the WJP, the rule of law has declined in most countries examined for the 5^th year in a row.¹¹WJP Rule of Law Index (https://worldjusticeproject.org/rule-of-law-index/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwlPWgBhDHARIsAH2xdNeiL6YFdg1jIMU2ZemQKDMT96QAoRxFYpaHyjOeuBdIcjiIv_abL08aAn3-EALw_wcB ) (24. 3. 2023). This raises the question of what the possible reasons for that could be. The article aims to discuss possible rule of law deficits by comparing Austria with Denmark and Hungary.
