2.1 Registered signs
As follows from Item 1, Art 1482 of the Russian Civil Code, the following sings can be registered as a trademark or service mark (hereinafter referred as „trademark“): words (in the Cyrillic or Latin alphabet), devices, three-dimensional signs and other signs or their combinations. „Other sings“ means that any denomination can be registered as a trademark if it meets the requirements of protection, i.e. can individualise the goods and/or services of a particular producer. Today moving marks, sounds, colour combinations and single colours (particular pantone if the acquired distinctiveness in Russia is proved) can enjoy legal protection in Russia. The trademarks can be registered in any colour or colour combination (Item 2, Art. 1484 of the Russian Civil Code). Currently the registrability of hieroglyphs as device marks is examined by the Russian Patent and Trademark office.
